Choice: A Collection Of Classics is not simply a retrospective of progressive house. John Digweed uses the two-disc format as a personal route through the house, techno, disco, ambient, acid and downtempo records that shaped his musical taste before and around the rise of the British club scene. The selection moves from the spacious mood of Voices Of Africa and The Grid to tougher house grooves, classic trance tension, acid textures and landmark remixes by names such as Larry Levan, Morales, Scott Hardkiss and Underworld.

The first disc has the stronger sense of discovery: it opens with atmospheric material, passes through Chicago and garage references, and gradually builds toward Dance 2 Trance – We Came In Peace, Desert Storm and Underworld’s Jamscraper Mix. The second disc expands the archive with deep and progressive house cuts before closing on memorable versions of DJ H. – Come On Boy and The Cure – A Forest. It is a collection for listeners who want context, not just a seamless contemporary mix.

The Vibe

This is a crate-digger’s compilation with a late-night listening profile. It works equally well as a historical reference for progressive-house fans, a source of rare club music discoveries, and a long-form home session where the contrast between old-school drum machines, dubby space, acid movement and melodic progressive structures can be appreciated in full.

Это сборник не про ровную формулу, а про удовольствие от неожиданных поворотов. На первом диске особенно хорошо работают White Love, We Came In Peace и Mmm... Skyscraper, I Love You: здесь есть и мягкая психоделика, и нарастающее напряжение, и та самая глубокая клубная атмосфера. Бочка звучит по-старому сухо и живо, без современной стерильности, поэтому релиз лучше включать поздним вечером — для домашнего прослушивания, долгой поездки или сета, который постепенно уходит в историю хаус-музыки.

Choice: A Collection Of Classics is a deliberately personal archive rather than a tightly engineered modern DJ mix. The first CD has the most convincing arc, moving from spacious downtempo and dub-influenced textures into tougher house, classic trance tension and the heavyweight finish of Underworld’s “Jamscraper Mix.” CD2 is more eclectic and occasionally less focused, but tracks such as the Larry Levan remix of “Come On Boy,” the Underworld version of “Cool Kids Of Death,” and Mark Saunders’ mix of “A Forest” give the compilation serious late-night and crate-digger appeal. The CD-Rip preserves the character of these older productions, from dry drum-machine punch to warm, slightly rough analogue low end.
